Root Canal Therapy in Sydney

At Mayflower Dental in Sydney, our family dentists perform root canal therapy to restore teeth affected by decay or an infection to their full function.

What is root canal therapy?

Root canal therapy may be necessary to treat an irreversibly inflamed nerve or abscess affected by decay or infection.

In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.

Symptoms of Infected Pulp:

  • An abscess (or pimple) on the gums
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Severe toothache pain
  • Swelling and/or tenderness

What are the steps involved in root canal therapy?

  • Step 1: An abscess has formed at the base of the tooth root causing infection and pain.
  • Step 2: A small opening in the tooth is created and the area is prepared for cleaning.
  • Step 3: The inside of the tooth and the root canal is cleaned out and disinfected.
  • Step 4: The canal is filled and the tooth is restored.

What can I expect after my appointment?

After treatment, your tooth may still be sensitive, but this will subside as the inflammation diminishes and the tooth has healed. You will be given care instructions after each appointment.

Good oral hygiene practices and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your root canal treatment.
